What an insane week it was! Amber here! I just got back from doing hair for New York Mercedes Benz Fashion Week working with the AMAZING and über talented Privé team for the 3rd season now. What perfect timing for us to have started a beauty blog. Here’s a little recap of the shows I styled hair for 🙂
Get excited! The first show was a very eccentric, eclectic and a very eye appealing show to start off the week! Lindsay Degen is our first Fashion Week featured designer! She is incredibly unique, and has a very interesting form of expression. Her style is quirky and definitely brightens up a room. The show was lead by Noemie Renvoize held at Industria Studio 10 in the Meat Packing District.
Check out Lindsay’s website in our featured links on the right side of the home page.
Next up was the Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan show at Lincoln Center. It was lead by Jorge Luis and was such a fun look. Lavender spray was even added to all of the models hair over a few of the braids for an added pop!
Braids are still SO in and not going anywhere anytime soon. The styles you can create with a braid, simple or complex, are endless and all amazing! Stay tuned for a blog with more on braids & all that fun jazzy jazz 😉
One of my favorite shows, who I have helped do hair for the past two seasons prior, is the amazing Son Jung Wan. The hair always seems to have an elegant yet fun edge & feel to it. This show was lead by Privé’s owner, the legendary Laurent Dufour! (Hairstylists; if you don’t know of him, you need to. He’s the most talented stylist with such a successful career and still the most humble soul I’ve ever met; and that says a lot for this industry!)
Followed by SJW, we were back at the Lincoln Center for the cousin duo designers known as Noon By Noor. Absolutely beautiful designs and lead by Jorge Luis!
There is definitely a trending look this season, and it’s dual texture. Mixing sleek foundations with texture, that has an intentional un-done finish, gives hair a unique look that can be styled in numerous different ways; working with fashion styles across the board from glamorous to chic grunge. This can be easily be done yourself, ladies. Have fun with creating dual textures! (shiny & matte, sleek & textured, straight & curly/crimped, etc!)
OH and look who my lovely friend, Madison Jane, and I ran into backstage at the show?!
Next we had the By Misha show held in the Lali Lali Gallery in one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city, Soho (surprise)! This was such a sophisticated, classy and glamorous show lead by Nicole Hartman.
I love this take on the high bun. It gives it that extra ‘something’ that a high bun for a NYFW show needs to stand out just a bit. I’m totally doing this to my hair when the right event comes up!
The second to last show was the sister duo known as William Okpo, named after their father. They are two extremely creative women that have no fear in expressing their unique taste.
That being said, check out the look they wanted for the hair! Big applause to Madison Jane and Nico Hartman who lead the show together. It took some time to figure out how the hair was styled and stayed in place with such a strong shape, but after a few tries it was successful!
The last show I worked, but absolutely not the least (actually, I think it was my favorite overall!), was the Amanda DeLeon show with Blow NYC lead by the incredible Gregory Patterson. I still feel so honored to have been a part of this show with Blow/Gregory and especially with it being for the emerging designer, Amanda. This artistic soul resides in New Orleans, LA and says “I create clothing as an extension of my personal feelings and experiences. My collections often discuss belonging vs not belonging.” You MUST check her out. On top of the collection being my absolute fave with designs I want to own and wear everyday, the models wore Dr. Martins. Done and DONE. SO GOOD.
Glamorous retro waves was the look for the hair, and is always such a staple to a strong outfit.
The most amazing part of this show was the energy. Absolutely everyone behind the scenes, from the models to makeup artist to hair stylists and nail artists, LOVED the looks Amanda created and from everyone so into it, an energy and vibe was created that cannot be put into words. Congrats to everyone involved, especially Miss Amanda DeLeon herself!
And that’s a wrap!! Each trip and fashion week has only been more and more amazing and I look forward to the day when I’ll be the lead of a show at NYFW. 😉
See that confidence there? I have no doubt I can and will do that someday. You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to.
Work hard, dream big, manifest, work hard, practicepracticepractice, connect/network, work hard, stay focused & stay positive, and did I mention work hard? I promise you will have more than your desired results. Living proof right here.
